HOVERTRAVEL PULLS OUT ALL THE STOPS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED
A fantastic £408 has been raised by Hovertravel as a result of their BBC Children In Need fundraising efforts for 2017.
The cross-Solent operator held a row-a-thon in their Ryde terminal yesterday (Thursday), which saw staff and the occasional customer row a grand total of 110 miles. The funds raised from the row have been added to the collections made in both terminals over 2 days to create a total donation of £408. Loretta Lale, head of commercial at Hovertravel, explains: “We wanted maximum impact and maximum staff involvement for our fundraising efforts this year and, thanks to our friends at The Evolution Gym in Ryde, a rowing machine was in our Ryde terminal from the start of our operation at 0615 until the engines were shut down after our last service.” “Staff from across the company have joined in; from pilots to engineers, cashiers to crew and even our MD, Neil Chapman! The most surprising rower during the morning was one of our regular commuters who stayed to row with us and took a later crossing.” Hovertravel is a long-term supporter of Children In Need.
PENGUIN PLUNGE IS BACK FOR 2017
Age UK Isle of Wight is once again inviting all Islanders to ‘take the plunge’ at Appley Beach, to raise much-needed funds for the charity’s ‘No One Should Have No One at Christmas’ Campaign. The Penguin Plunge is a sponsored Christmas dip in the sea and this year will take place on Sunday 17th December. Crowds are set to gather outside the Dell Café at Appley (near Puckpool) at 11:00. It’s just £10 to enter, which includes a foam penguin mask to wear for the dip and a hot drink & foil blanket to warm up with afterwards. Small Additional sponsorship is appreciated and Teams, families and group entrys are welcomed. Elisha Leachman, Fundraising Manager at Age UKIW, said: “We’re really excited for the return of the plunge this year! Last year there was a great crowd turn out to support our brave penguins, we hope that many will join us to celebrate this festive season and help raise vital funds for their local island charity. “All of the profits raised in December will stay on the Island to support the most vulnerable older people in our communities. We, as a local, independent charity are incredibly grateful to everyone that shows us support at Christmas and are looking forward to seeing everyone there” You can sign up today through the Age UKIW website at http://bit.ly/Penguin17 or by contacting the fundraising department on 01983 301343.
